Readercon 31 Will Be Virtual

For the second time in our history, Readercon is going virtual. Do you remember Readercon 8 when Guest of Honor William Gibson attended using a fax machine?

Readercon will be broadcasting virtually on August 13-15, 2021, delivering three days of programming on imaginative literature. Jeffrey Ford and Ursula Vernon are joining as Guests of Honor with Vonda N. McIntyre as Memorial Guest of Honor, plus a plethora of editors, critics, and other industry professionals from around the world.

You can expect to see panels on both books and the art of writing, authors reading from their work, a variety of speculative fiction talks and workshops, and a virtual version of our standout bookshop selling new and used books from a variety of small press and independent booksellers.

Registration will reopen in February with membership priced at $25. While Readercon is a labor of love supported by all our volunteers and guests, there are still expenses associated with running a virtual conference. We are keeping the cost to attend as low as possible for everyone.

Our Registration team is currently contacting everyone who had purchased a membership at the in-person rate before we closed registration last spring. We will make good on your desire to support and attend Readercon and have a couple options to discuss with you. If you haven’t heard from us by the end of March, reach out to for more information.

We are currently working out the details of translating the welcoming Readercon community of writers and readers into a virtual environment and could use your help. If you are willing to volunteer before or during the convention this year, contact

Thank you for your support during 2020 and caring about Readercon even when we can’t be together in person for bookish conversation.

We look forward to seeing you all again virtually in July.
