In light of unexpected logistical issues, Readercon 31 is moving to August 13-15, 2021. Thank you for your patience as we attempt something we've never done before! We want to ensure the virtual experience is as enjoyable as we can make it for program participants and attendees alike.
The content of our virtual convention, however, remains the same: Guests of Honor Jeffrey Ford and Ursula Vernon will take the stage along with other authors, editors, critics, and luminaries from around the world. You will see panels on both the heart of reading and the art of writing, authors reading from their work, a variety of talks and performances, award ceremonies for the Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award and the Shirley Jackson Awards, and a virtual version of our standout Bookshop selling new and used books from a variety of small press and independent booksellers.
Join us when registration opens in early June with membership priced at $25. Our Registration team is contacting everyone who had purchased a membership at the in-person rate before we closed registration last spring. If you haven't heard from us already, reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Readercon is entirely volunteer-run and we could really use your help as we put together our first-ever virtual convention. If you are willing to contribute your skills or time as a volunteer this year, fill out this brief form so we know what interests you. Here are just a few of the things you could do to make Readercon amazing:
- Pre-convention planning: coordinate pre-recorded talks and readings, edit videos and review captions, set up Zoom and YouTube for live events, test and manage our new Drupal-based website, design and edit the digital program guide and other publications, solicit advertising, adapt our safety process to virtual spaces
- At-convention support: facilitate Zoom panels, facilitate Discord Q&As and social spaces, provide help and info to attendees, join our 24/7 safety team and address safety matters
Thank you for caring about Readercon even when we can't be together in person for bookish conversation. We can't wait to build an amazing virtual convention with you and for you.
See you virtually in August!
